An Update!

Ugh. I really was going to try and NOT do the sporadic updates. Then Cats happened. Closes this weekend and I can finally find myself again. No more legwarmers.

[livejournal.com profile] avengangle I suck. And yes, dinner one of these nights would rock. ♥

The Good
• Got a couple of scholarship offers. No more acceptances which is worrisome. But at least I have someplace.
• Who is continuing to eat my brain. In answer to the questions from the last post? I'm all the way through s1 now. I did things out of order to watch Jack's character arc so NOW am going back through to watch the whole thing. Who is LOVE. And I'm just sorry I was this stubborn for THIS long. Oi.
• Am now the proud owner of a 1950s RAF officer's greatcoat. I've been watching for them for YEARS and finally found one that will fit. And will be LONG.
• Weight watch: 203ish. So I've hit about the 30 lbs lost mark, give or take.

The Bad
• Yes, guess who is sick. ME! And this is on top of mother being deathly ill this past week too. Stayed home from work. Am about to go into the doc's and have bloodwork taken. JOY AND RAPTURE. Only not.
• Got Dinged by American two days ago. And their letter was RUDE. In not so many words they basically said "Yes, we saw your softs. But we look at LSATs and while some people could be successful even with low numbers, we don't think you will. Go to hell."

The Ugly
• Case Western. Sending me a package with a BIG-ASS WHITE ENVELOPE with the opening lines of "Thank you for your recent application to CWRU. On behalf of Dean Robert Rawson and our faculty and staff, I am pleased to provide you with the latest Admissions Bulletin for the school of law." Bastard. Don't start out a "here's info on the school" letter like a damned Acceptance letter. And people wonder why lawyers are jackasses.

♥ Finally getting back to my computer and starting to catch up with my flist. I know I haven't been commenting as much as I normally do, and I'm sorry. It's feeling like the old mental issues of lurking and hiding are creeping up. Which is one of the reasons I'm seeing the doc today and have them check my thyroid levels. My mood swings lately have been wretched. ♥ I love you guys. Seriously.

And, too, if you're having a bad day -- or even a good day! -- and want a hug from Lia, all comments to this post come with hugs. Just sayin'.

[Also! Please point me in the direction of your Valentinr if you have one. I know I've missed a bunch and I want to send notes! ♥]

Standing backstage with the newest member of my harem (the loverly Tony), two other guys and three women.

They're all techies. So of course the conversation is... strange. Somehow we got onto the discussion of Tony and his sexuality. And my saying that the fact he played the king in Once Upon A Mattress in high school started his aversion to women.

Tony: Someone at work called me the straight male who happens to like buttsex. Who around here doesn't like buttsex?
Women: *all look at each other and shrug*
Tony: *shrugs*

From the other side of our circle, one of the middle school boys raises his hand quietly. Enter the rest of us losing it laughing... as the other male kept his hand down.

There are moments I truly, truly love my theatre. This is one of them.
thescarletwoman: (TV // TWW :: Get into Trouble)
Apparently, Almi's telling others (aka- Richard) HER side -- which is incorrect. What's worse is when they believe it.

At least mom straightened him out and he apologised.

All I have to say: I don't mind being held to a higher standard. I mind being held to a lower one.

And while we're on the west wing kick? This is seriously how I feel right about now about the Playhouse.

"Sam, do you think there's any chance that you could be rude to me tomorrow? Tomorrow is Saturday; I will be here. You can call me and be rude by phone or you can stop by and do it in person. 'Cause I think if I have to endure another disappointment today from this place that I have worshipped, I am gonna lose it. So if you could wait until tomorrow, I would appreciate it."
thescarletwoman: (TV // Vulcan :: Fuck Off)
You know what's always nice? Getting yelled at for doing your job because an actor just so happens to be an asshole and doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut.

Yes, dickwad -- you ripped your pants. Wasn't even that bad, really. When I'm walking INTO the show 45 minutes before curtain is NOT when you come up to me and shove your ass in my face and fucking prance around about it. Particularly as I have JUST walked in, am still laden down with instrument and other bags. I laid into the little cocksucker. I wasn't mean (as [livejournal.com profile] rose_whispers will attest), but I was firm. And dude. The rule is: you lose a button or a shirt needs ironed, you do it yourself. If it's a major incident you tell the stage manager ASAP and she will phone the costumer.

ALWAYS been this way.

Our delicate flower runs to the director and says I was mean and how upset he was.

So what happens? Bitch-face Almi decides to bitch me out in front of the entire fucking cast. Saying how I'm on staff now and we don't treat volunteers this way. Dare I mention that at green room opening night almi says (and I quote): "I'd like to formally welcome our newest staff member, Eric!" May I mention that Eric was hired mid-July. I was hired in August.

Right. Bitch.

So. Fucking. Annoyed.

Bullet points:

1. Apparently to my mother, a week off = we're cleaning the house from top to bottom. AKA- My mother is bloody insane.

2. Still recovering from last week. Oi. That's all I have to say.

3. In an hour I will have a [livejournal.com profile] rose_whispers in my home! *SQUEEEE!*

4. [livejournal.com profile] daily_deviant fic is stuck in the mud. I want to use either confessions or frottage as my kink for this month, but every single fic I start dies after about three paragraphs. In other words, oh darling flist -- heeeeeeeeeeelp!

5. Anyone watching Raising the Bar on TNT? We caught the first episode (which was really the second) last week. Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

6. Hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Happy hump day! ♥
thescarletwoman: (Theatre // Reality Is...)
I totally forgot to add in the stats from the show. *sigh* I go two weeks without posting and then two posts in one day.

Actors in the Show: 22
Number of Costumes Produced: About 200 [considering the chorus plays about 6-10 roles each]

And now for the kicker...

Number of costume pieces that went through our hands (including putting zippers in EVERYONE's boots), suspenders, hats, trousers, etc: Approximately 900

So is it any wonder why mom and I finished sewing costumes at 5:05 yesterday?
thescarletwoman: (Movies // Clue :: How I Did It)
Wow!

So The Producers opened last night as you guys could tell by my excited text message post. It feels SO good to have this thing up and done with. The pictures for final dress rehearsal aren't online yet, but I'll post links as soon as they are.

I've been involved with some shows that have been sheer hell but this one REALLY takes the cake. And I must admit -- doing double duty in the costume shop AND in the pit wasn't exactly fun. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were all fifteen hour days for me. Last night we ate at home! *gasp* something NOT out of a Subway bag. I don't care what Jared says... enough is enough when it comes to subs.

If you'd have asked me if we'd have been ready for opening night last night -- I'd have laughed. This too was one of the first times I ever was skeptical about opening at the start of dress rehearsal. Yet, somehow, we made it and the show was fabulous last night. Still a few issues and what have yous, but it's brilliant and hysterical.

and why oh WHY must our Carmen Ghia be gay? I've collected yet another one. Just ONCE I'd like to find an adorable straight male who adores me. *sigh*

So now, all that's left is to play for the show. Mom and I are taking all of next week off, so that will be used to actually catch up with things. I cannot wait to have time to actually just sit and do nothing. Oh TR, how I've missed you. And [livejournal.com profile] bugly I'll actually be back to chat with you! *misses leik woah*

Thanks, guys, for the support through the radio silence. This was utterly, utterly insane.
thescarletwoman: (Boys // Kiss :: Pups-esque)
Work is absolutely insane, but I'm loving every minute. Producers is going to be a blast, not only to play but to work on the show in the shop. Saying it right now -- if any of you lot are going to be in the Erie area in September, you totally have to come see it. Cleveland gang -- you're coming and there's no choice in the matter.

As for weight loss -- I started Weight Watchers on May 1st -- and while I'm not ALWAYS the best at tracking what I eat during the day, I hit my first major milestone: I've lost twenty pounds to date. I'm extremely, extremely proud of myself. And knowing this was a lot of the weight put on when I took both vioxx and topomax for my migraines I'm absolutely stoked.

Still have a long ways to go -- but it's a start!

Hope everyone is having a brilliant week so far. ♥

Also -- totally random side note: four years later and I STILL want to jump Michael Phelps. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] lisabel, I found that icon you made for me. *coff*

Dear Body,

Yes, I know you're used to me being a night owl. Yes, I wish I could stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning like usual. However, I now have a full time job which means getting up at 8 am, not 11. Thus, please start readjusting yourself so that I'm in bed by 1 -- 2 at the LATEST. This reading in bed until 4am when I finally crash is getting really old.

Also -- giving me the red death this week? If that's your idea of a joke, I'm not laughing.

No love,
Me

Dear Hollywood,

You know, I love that you're bringing back the movie musical. I really do! However, the latest debacle Nine is making me rather pissed off at you. If you're going to make movie musicals please cast KNOWN SINGERS in title roles, particularly when they're insanely vocally demanding.

REALLY no love,
Me

And for once, they're not for me but for a good friend of mine. Right now, I don't know all the details, but a guy I know at the theatre (he's 16 for the record) was just kicked out of his house. I don't know the reason yet, but from the sounds of it, his mother and new husband just kicked him out and said he could go live down at the city rescue mission. The email I saw made it seem like it was unprovoked, but I honestly have no idea just WHAT happened in the end.

Instead of going god knows where, he called Judy and David (David of the former Playhouse Director David) and they're taking him in and working with a judge to be able to legally take care of him.

Like I said, I don't know the circumstances surrounding this -- but good thoughts his way would be muchly appreciated.

Driveby posting:

1. Folks go back to work on Monday. Thank GOD. Cleaning = teh suck. That is all.

2. The Dark Knight is all sorts of awesome. Ten shades of it really. Need to see it again to take in all the little things I couldn't take in the first time around. But I loved it. And Gaz is brilliant. And Bale... take me now plz.

3. I have that massively large post to do for people, but as of right now, this will have to suffice:
If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

4. [livejournal.com profile] hp_summersmut is coming along swimmingly! It's shaping up to be a brilliant fest.

5. Thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes: be they IMs, txts or comments/posts. I love you guys. *points up to No.3* Yes, I do love you muchly.

6. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!! I have a job. XD a real, full time with benefits job. *bows* You're looking at the new assistant costume designer at the Playhouse. I'm so completely and totally stoked it's not funny!

♥♥♥ hope everyone's had a brilliant week!
thescarletwoman: (Other // Wolf :: D'oh!)
Was stuck in a hospital waiting room for five hours.

My uncle went into the hospital earlier this week for some blockage in his lower end. For those of you keeping score at home, this is my dad's brother. The one who just divorced his wife a few years back and married the woman he was having the affair with. Sidebar: he and wife number four are in the process of getting a divorce.

Apparently, he had been doing better all this week. I haven't been in to see him because I've been going through the seventh circle of hell at the Playhouse with this damn concert this weekend. At about 8pm, I get a call from my dad saying that Uncle Mark is going into surgery. He blew a hole in his intestine from all the built up pressure. I ended up leaving rehearsal around 9:30 when I just couldn't stand it any longer. Went home, changed, and went down to the hospital with the folks.

Basically -- we wanted to be there for my aunt. I personally... couldn't do what she did tonight -- waiting all night for the man who committed adultery SEVERAL times to come out of surgery but none of us wanted to be alone. Particularly because Andy (my cousin and their son) refuses to even speak to his father. And Andy never came down all night. Which, hi, I don't care if you're fighting with someone. When there's a medical emergency like this, you put differences aside. Once he's out of the woods go back to hating him. But in this case where my uncle could have died from this? Yeah, really smart, Andy.

At about 12:30am he came out of surgery and the doctor talked to us. As soon as the words 'life threatening' were used, the four of us were deadly quiet. They ended up removing a large portion of his colon and they're still going to have to go in again and look at the blockage, but the doc said it didn't look or feel like cancer, and he thinks it's diverticulitis related. (Which, my Uncle has had that diagnosed for YEARS now). So they're going to let him heal before doing anything else. The good news was that he got into surgery before he could turn septic... which really would have been the kiss of death. Knowing that the drug that counters septic is about $10,000 a dose, it could have... been really not good. I think I'm still in shock over that whole bit.

Finally at about 2:30 am we were able to see him in the ICU. He's doing well (or as well as can be expected at the present).

It's... just been one helluva night.
thescarletwoman: (Movies // Legally Blonde :: LSATs)
God, just kill me now.

The LSATs are officially in less than a month and I think I've just hit insane panic!mode. I'm taking another practise exam tomorrow and we'll see what my score does. If I can jump a goodly amount right about now, I'll stop fretting (as) much. But right now... seeing where my score is (a 150 *wince*) and knowing where I need it to be (170ish *WINCE*) I'm about three steps away from freaking out.

Well... more like two and a half.

The Kaplan program is absolutely amazing and I will admit, after having not been in school for a good two years, restarting was insanely hard. But I think I've found my stride.

*points to icon* Agreeing with [livejournal.com profile] violet_quill on this one. The fact that she scored what she did... is sickening. I want Elle's score!

Strangely? Doing a couple of shows has done more to improve my mental well-being than anything. And back down to the Playhouse tonight for one of the infamous David/Andrew concerts. Ooooh will this be fun. AND we're playing Rhapsody in Blue as well as a shitload of Sondheim. I'm a happy girl.

Didn't end up completing LMoM at [livejournal.com profile] pervy_werewolf but I gave it a good run. When it came down to finishing pr0n or faceplanting into my texts, I chose the latter -- though decidedly not as much fun.

How have you all been? Any finals-related deaths to report?
thescarletwoman: (TV // TWW :: Finest Bagels)
This year NEARLY started out on a bad note. Had a great time at Richard & Jerry's as usual. Didn't drink a lot last night either... came home and went to bed. Mom comes into my room at noon and asks if I know what time it is. Tells me it's noon. I, having a CONCERT this afternoon with a 1pm call... go into massive panic mode.

However -- I had a boy over tonight. For dinner. He's the assistant lighting design/scene shop guy at the theatre. And he came home for dinner. We got home at about 5:30 and he stayed until 10. Am sleepy and am going to bed, so will answer comments and the like before work tomorrow. Ugh. Back to the grind. *headdesk*

And let's just say, if tonight is any indication of how my new year is going to go, it's going to be fucking fantastic.

*sigh*

thescarletwoman: (Movies // Naked :: Disappointed)
Well, the list is up and I didn't get in. I'm not as disappointed as I thought I'd be. I'm really fucking pissed off.

1. The girl who is playing Jo -- couldn't even come to call backs as she was "at a performance out of state". So... because EVERYONE ELSE could be there, she gets a freebie and right in for Jo?

2. Three out of the four March sisters were cast from the girls who were up for Jo. So... how is that fair to any of us who had two fucking days to prepare other material for Meg? Whereas everyone knows the stuff that Jo has to sing, especially as the song to sing for callbacks was "Astonishing".

I'm really pissed off. The casting is horrible for this. No one is the right ages. None of the girls really LOOK alike and like a family.

This is absolute bull shit is what it is.

I'll tell you one thing. If I wasn't cast because they think I'm going to play in the pit and they need a violin in the pit (as it's a huge string show) they have another fucking thing coming.
thescarletwoman: (Theatre // Tommy :: See Me Feel Me)
In about 20 minutes I should, theoretically know the results of Little Women call backs. I've been obsessively refreshing the results page since... oh, since Saturday. JUST in case they decided to post it early. But now it's down to the wire and I feel ready to throw up.

Hopefully they're going to post this online right at nine and put me out of my misery.

I just... I'm very, very afraid I got my hopes up too high only to really crash and burn in a few minutes.

Can one give onesself an ulcer in twentyish minutes?

Happier news -- I arrived late to the love meme. I was in the other one and got a couple of nice comments. So -- here I am again should you feel so inclined.

It's 8:51am. Oh god. Oh God. Oh god.

*wibbles*
thescarletwoman: (Theatre // The Full Monty :: Did I Captu)
Off to the callbacks that is. Once this whole experience is over I'll be back to replying to comments. I just have been really, really concentrating on preparing for this audition. Found out yesterday that the turnout was somewhere between 40-50 girls for 4 roles. And they're calling back 12.

So... yeah. *gulp*

Wish me luck! I'll be back with a full update on how it went. :D
thescarletwoman: (Theatre // Victor/Victoria :: World's a)
First of all, thank you to everyone for their well wishes. They... let's just say they mean the world to me. I'll answer more personally later, but I at least wanted to say thank you. ♥♥

Audition results come out on Friday. Consequently, this has been the longest week of my life.

BUT!

I just got an email from Almi that... there are call-backs and I'm up for a call back. Which is most DEFINITELY yay.

However... I'm up for Meg, not Jo. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that Meg is a soprano and I'm decidedly... not. Meg hits high Gb-s... Jo has one insanely high note, but otherwise, she's more of a mezzo. And looking at everyone who is up for Jo... they're all sopranos and all the ones up for Meg are altos/mezzos. So I don't get it.

I'm going to do it, of course -- but it just seems odd.

Thoughts or advice? *looks at seasoned actors around here* would you call/email and ask if there was a mistake on the call-back sheet? Or should I just go to the callback and see what happens?

*gulp*

Whelp... my audition is today. I've kept this under wraps because... I actually haven't said a word to anyone around here before a few days ago. I'm auditioning for our production of Little Women and I'm going for Jo. And I know the competition out there, but dammit, I can sing the hell out of "Astonishing"... so... we're giving it a shot. Good luck vibes will be muchly appreciated!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
thescarletwoman: (Ralph Fiennes // Bouncyicon)
But I know when I'll be back again.

Gone to DC and will return Sunday sometime, assuming northwest doesn't fuck with me. Keep your fingers crossed on that one.

Sooooo excited and I can't wait to leave. Of course, I'm also packing right now as I ended up spending the entire weekend at the theatre. The ass't director of Frankenstein is also the stage manager and needed someone to take notes for Richard, so she asked me. OMG. I've never had more fun than the past four nights of taking notes. And also learned SO much. You want to learn about acting, take notes for a director during tech week. You'll be amazed what you learn.

Shall miss you all and I'll see you when I get back! Those who have the cell, feel free to text or call me! And those I'll be seeing... YEEE! See you soon!
