So, totally thought that today was my LJ anniversary. As it turns out, it was yesterday. So -- happy 5 years on LJ to me! I still remember hanging out in the AaH chatrooms late at night with risen_one, mellanor, profstark and the whole lot of us -- and the night chaptsickmess gave me my LJ code. And here I had hoped I'd actually manage to keep the blog going. Guess I did!



I don't know how many of you are Dancing With The Stars buffs, but this is from two weeks ago, the Macy's Stars of Dance performance. It's the cast of A Chorus Line and usually I wouldn't squee about this.

Save the fact one of my friends from high school is in the cast. He's the one in the black tank with the number 17 on his chest. Name's Nick Adams, and I must say it's insane seeing girls squeeing over him on some of the B'way message boards. But he looks the same as ever... and he STILL kicks higher than the girls.

Mostly, we had a happy ending.

Shortly after I emailed the post, I decided to suck it up and call my father and VERY CAREFULLY ask if there was an envelope on the counter. The conversation went thusly:

Me: So... uh... did I happen to leave a manilla envelope on the kitchen counter?
Dad: yes you did.
Me: Uh... please don't look in there.
Dad: Why?
Me: No reason. Just... not for your eyes. At all.
Dad: Okay...
Me: Actually, can you toss it in the den on my stuff. Or even in the dining room?
Dad: I'm just... going to leave it where it is.

Hang up with him and have a nerve wracking next hour or so, wondering if he'll actually NOT look or if it'll be the little kid syndrome. Don't touch the stove... what does the kid do? Touch the stove. Had a ton of drama at work involving a new credit card machine and my being unable to transmit the batch for whatever reason which involved me driving back to the store after leaving to call boss and explain. Get home around 7:40 and mom's home.

Enter envelope still sitting on the kitchen table.

Run in. Grab it.

Mom: what's that?
Me: *on way up the stairs* noooothing.
Mom: So, where are you going with it?
Me: To my room.
Mom: What's in it.
Me: just never you mind.

So... I can only hope they DIDN"T see what's in there. Mom, would likely be a bit better with what it was as she and I share romance novels. But as I was wibbling with wook77 romance novels and sign-ups for a pr0n fest are two VERY different things.

Last thing I needed was my father seeing a request of: Snarry or Harry/Draco, kinks: D/s, BDSM and rimming.

Crisis Averted.

Okay -- side note? The Musician/Historian in me is friggin' DYING over this. And seeing Harry et all wearing the stereotypical Viking helmets with Ride of the Valkyries playing in the background. Er... don't ask.

In any case -- It's Snape!gen. And I'm about one part away from it being completely finished. But it's a fic I just want to write as I'm sure DH will either a, go into this or b, completely destroy the fic.

I'm really... not ready for DH to come out. I've been seeing everyone discuss what this means for fandom, and even I've had a poll about it. I'm not planning on going anywhere to be certain. But I know things won't be the same after Saturday.

Yes, there will be fic. And I know we writers are quite the resilient lot and we'll find ways around anything in canon. It's where we find subtext. It's how we all found ways to bring Sirius back from beyond the veil. I just have this feeling it's going to be different having closed-canon now.

( What I'd actually like to see happen... no spoilers here! Merely, my own thoughts and most likely going to be unpopular opinions at that. )

Alright... first things first -- I'm not going anywhere. I know there have been trolls around and I can tell you for certain that I will not be posting spoilers in this LJ until AFTER I have my hands on the hot little book and have read it cover to cover and undoubtedly sobbed no less than six times but that's beside the point.

I was spoiled five minutes before I picked up OotP and still haven't quite forgiven the asshat for doing it. I read no spoilers before HBP. Right now? Yes, I'm clicking links and mostly everything is so absurd that it's laughable.

However, while at dinner last night, my father came up with the ending of the book.

Me: So what'll happen? Rocks fall and everyone dies.
Dad: No, this. Harry kills Voldemort. Voldemort kills Harry. And then everyone else commits suicide because there's nothing left for them. The end.

I ♥ my father. Seriously.

So in regards to this journal -- After DH comes out, spoilers will be posted behind an LJ-cut until August. Any fic that may be written (as, hard to say with that) will definitely warn for spoilers.

I'm not out to spoil anyone. If I want to look at them, that's my choice. But no one else should have to see them if they don't want to.
