Rarely is there a squeeing entry around here -- especially when the squee also has the name Dwight Oltman in conjuction with it. For those of you who don't know, Mr Oltman is the conductor of my college orchestra. Usually an asshole and the bane of my existence. He's of the... well, if it's not "Bach it sucks" mentality and told me my freshman year that by the end of my four years here I'll like Bach better than musicals.
Fat chance of that, but there's the backstory.
Well, yesterday I played on a recital for a friend of mine. Widely publicized as it made the local paper as a "Hot Ticket" and will be broadcast on the local radio at somepoint. Basically? It was a pop recital of mostly music theatre stuff.
Guess who played on it.
Played the theme from Schindler's List and it went AMAZINGLY. Was one of the best times I've ever played it and I swear Gamble was at least half full if not more. But the thing is -- OLTMAN was there (sitting behind my parents no less).
I see him afterwards. He FIRST congratulates me. SECOND tells me what a wonderful job I did and THIRD pulls me into this tight bear hug. See Lia fall over dead from complete and total shock.
I'm still on cloud nine and going to see if there's a recording of the recital anywhere to get an MP3 of this. I'm SO bloody proud of my performance. Just goes to show you: you play the things you love a lot better. :D
