Thank you guys SO much for all the birthday wishes on Saturday. Day was loverly and I got to spend time with my fabulously gay boyfriend at a gay bar in the evening. *g* Was absolutely fantastic. Hard to believe I'm running out of time here in Erie. Yeesh.

If anyone is interested, there is a statement from Gareth on his website. And it reads like the typical 'they asked me to say this diplomatically' which I can't blame him for. I DO feel wretched for James Moran who had been SO open to talking to fans which is wonderful for us. But to those of you (not saying any of them are on my flist) who did abuse the poor man for shame. Honestly, for shame.

It's taken me a good four days to finally feel as if I'm not reeling from this. TV shouldn't make you feel as this made me feel. And things damn near broke my Jack!Muse. I don't know who is really still unspoiled as to what happened but until it airs in the US I'll be good.

I'm, at last, working on fic. The sequel to the Trace Memory fic from Jack's POV has been put on the back-burner (it's half done) for the time being while I work on fixing CoE. Or, at least, finding a deserved ending.

I trust you to fix things. *squishes*

I'd be interested to read that Trace Memory fic. It's one of the few of the novels that I enjoyed, and had half-decent characterisation. Admittedly, I haven't read many (doing all my TW novel reading sitting in Borders), but I didn't like the Twilight Streets at all, and so many people rave about that one.

To make myself feel better, I'm plotting a writing experiment that doesn't go anywhere near the Season That Never Was. It's pre-Reset, even. Kind of nervous, since I haven't done much dialogue in TW fandom, but it does have a cracking joke in it that's too good to waste. So, I'm kicking my muse into gear! I haven't written anything postable since writing a cheer-up fic for Sam when he broke his leg. A couple of unpostable things that could, technically, be knocked into shape, but the most polished of them is kinda melancholy, and I don't really want to be playing in the angst-pool right now.

*snuggles* D'aaaw! ♥

Here's the first part if you missed it. Of Future Pasts and Past Futures. I wanted to do a companion piece from Ianto's PoV, so that's the one that's coming. I adored Trace Memory and there were things in Twilight Streets I really liked. If you're reading for nice Janto moments, Pack Animals is fantastic for that. As for 'Almost Perfect'... I have a love/hate relationship with that novel. *g* I'm a dork and buy the books because they're small and easily fit into my purse.

XD that's fantastic! I can't wait to see that either. Alas, the fix-it has to be angst ridden, but it's the happy ending that counts, right?

I've read the first part. I think I've got it bookmarked on my delicious... If I don't, I should. I meant I'd like to read the next bit. :)

I know I read Twilight Streets a bit quickly, but the whole thing with Bilis and light and dark seemed like so much nonsense, to me. Extravagant handwaving, without enough substance, just a whole heap of grandiose last-minute exposition. I was really disappointed, because the initial idea was really interesting: that there was this area of Cardiff that Jack was basically allergic to because of his condition, because time was fucked up there. I ended up basically forcing myself to finish it, in between eyerolling.

Almost Perfect, from what little I've heard of it, kind of sets my teeth on edge. I don't like that to have a really Jack/Ianto heavy plot, they had to genderswap one of them. It makes my brain scream 'heteronormatism!!!'. That said, there was a Jack/Ianto genderswap fic in TARDIS big bang this round that I quite liked, so maybe I'd like the book if I gave it a chance. I don't know.

HAPPY ENDING IS THE KEY. Or at least a hopeful ending. That for me is the major difference between what they did in Exit Wounds, and what they did in COE. As I said on [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze's journal, 'the end is where we start from' is miles apart from the note COE left things on. You can put your characters through the worst kinds of shit, but unless you leave them with something, the viewers/readers are going to be left in that bad place. Dark fic/horror is a whole different genre, something people read/watch deliberately to go to that grim place, but up until COE, Torchwood was NEVER that. All the most traumatic eps I can think of have an upbeat note that end, even a little one, just enough to keep people tuning in for the next episode. Cyberwoman ends with the nod of forgiveness, or at least truce between Jack and Ianto. Countrycide, with Gwen finding solace with Owen. Even Adrift, which is arguably the most 'realistic' depiction of the dangers of the Rift to the general human population closes on the reconciliation between Gwen and Rhys.
