I think it was to tell Harry about being a Horcrux. I have a feeling he was trying to tell him during the book (when he was trying to get McGonagall to tell him Potter was there and trying to get Voldemort to let him go after Harry), but he was never able to get a hold on him. I'm not sure why he leaked those other memories; perhaps he finally thought it was time for people to understand him. Who knows?
