Hey, Hey, Welcome to the Tonys!

Live blog as it goes -- or at least, as I remember to update this.

And yes, I'm getting started a little late. So sue me.

ETA: as of 11:01 -- we're all done. Running commentary starting about at 8:30 and running through the end of the awards.

Summing up this far:

* WTF is up with Whoopi. I love her... and I think she's three sheets to the wind right now.
* Passing Strange -- That wins and I'll eat my hat. Dear fucking god.

8:35 *blink* Oh b'way. Don't ever change.

8:36 EEEEEEEEEE! I love John Lithgow. Loved, loved, loved him in DRS.

8:38 Fuck. If Sunday in the Park gets shut out... I'm going to be SO fucking pissed.

8:41 And here goes Gypsy. Patti. Yippie. I still love her, even if she was totally wrong for Mrs Lovett. And this is one helluva role for. Damn.

8:46 WTF. Whoopi... just stop. Really. *doesn't admit to having laughed at the joke though*

8:53 It's always sad that the plays don't get as much coverage of the musicals. Granted, I admit to being rather musical-centric I can still appreciate them. And I think my Sunday is going to be completely shut out. *whimper*

8:54 EEEEE BRADLEY!

8:56 Stew? *sigh* I'm already disappointed in who's winning. WTF. GET THE RAP THE FUCK OUT OF RADIO CITY!!!!

8:58 aaaaaand here comes South Passaic. Er. Pacific. And I knew they'd include 'Dames'. And whoever is singing 'Some Enchanted' is REALLY friggin' familiar. All in all. Meh. Not my favourite musical by FAR.

9:08 *squee* yay for mentioning the costumers. As my mother is one... that's brilliant.

9:09 EEEEEE. Whoopi as Mary Poppins.

9:10 KRISTEN! *squee* I so, so, so love her. And she is such a shrimp! omg.

9:12 Aaaand Grease. *sigh* This, while I knew one of the girls in the competition -- it was just not the way to get stars for a musical. Though, I will say -- how amazing. To win that competition, get to perform on B'way and then get to perform at the Tonys. Damn.

9:20 *freaks out* okay, WSEE didn't miss anything when they forgot to go to commercial... or whatever. Whew.

9:22 Brooke. I used to like her... then I saw her in Cabaret... and watched her watching everyone ELSE for the bloody choreography.

9:26 *rather wants Marissa's dress*

9:27 Little Mermaid... wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But then again, a show where they wear wheelies? Ergh.

9:28 A Catered Affair. Huh. The string part makes me go squee. It... almost looks decent. Though hard to tell from the little two minute snippets.

9:30 Young Frankenstein. Meh. You so needs to be Madeline. I'm too in love with the original. Surprisingly, this doesn't make me want to see it. And this has to be rather strange for Mel to... not have a show stuffed to the gills with Tonys.

9:32 BRAAAAAAAAAAAAADLEY!

9:36 Obligatory Tony thingy.

9:37 Whoopi's next costume change. And... that is SO true. Skinny!people seats. And god I wish our theatre had flyspace. This is a very, very cool way of showing the snippets of each play.

9:43 Gabriel! *whimper*

9:45 Her speech was adorable. I think she gets the award for the most adorable speech thus far!

9:47 No... no... don't ruin my Spamalot. Nope, too late. She's... trying to be Hugh Jackman. And... she's not.

9:53 *cackles* Let's get back to the dancing queens *pause* and kings!

9:53 I swear this is TWW alumni night! AHAHAHAH. She also called it the Scottish Play. Insert mother and I explaining why to my father here.

9:56 *blink* Anyone else confused. What the hell is he saying? *shakes head* that is... two minutes of my life I won't get back. *SNORT* and the look on Mary's face matched mine. And DHP! *CACKLES*

9:57 *waves to Alec Baldwin* My has he put on some weight! And no cookie for you for saying 'Macbeth' Do what Mary Louise Parker did! Duh.

9:59 Yes, honey, Radio City is really that big. And WOW 33 years in regional theatre. DAMN. But you know... I love watching people who've worked their way up through the theatre. Rock on.

10:01 *sigh* what is happening to you, b'way. Really... what is happening to you?
[livejournal.com profile] rose_whispers I don't know if I could sit through this.
[livejournal.com profile] thescarletwoman *headdesk*

10:06 *SQUEEEE!* mention of Sunday. Yes, I'm that obsessed with this show. I freely admit it.

10:10 FUCKING COCKSUCKERS. South Pacific, go jump off a fucking cliff and die a horrible, fiery death.

10:11 DAN Rad! Yay. And here's the balsphemy -- but I won't die if I don't get to see him in Equus. AHAHAHA. "As if by magic" and he shrugs. I will say he's adorable though.

10:13 Can we fit ANY more people on this stage? Jesus H. Christ. And this guy is a real asshole too. Someone really forgot to bring the funny tonight.

10:15 MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDY!

10:16 And I am SO sad Sondheim wasn't there. But no one better than Mandy could have read that.

10:22 I... Have no words. None. None whatsoever. That is Sondheim at his peak. And... just... yeah. No words. If this doesn't win I will throw things. I swear to god.

10:23 Whoopi. Stop it. I will pay you good money to cease and desist. PLEASE.

10:27 Awww. Glen Close! I don't like her dress at ALL though.

10:28 *WHIMPER*

10:28 FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK. Take your tony and shove it up your fucking ass. The rest of the night is going to suck I just know it will. Sondheim got robbed twice. But at least there's no snotty remark about the humable musical tune is alive and living at the palace.

10:31 Aaaaaw. Lily Tomlin! It is SO TWW alumni night. Eeehehee. LMAO. Lily you're adorable.

10:34 I honestly wouldn't mind for this one to win, surprisingly.

10:41 *SNORTS* I do love Madonna

10:42 THANK you. here we go. *happy sigh*

10:46 That was... a truly, truly wonderful tribute to RENT.

10:47 LIZA! And... wow. Dad just said it looks like she had a stroke. And Stew is an ass.

10:48 *sigh* Why am I bothering to watch the rest of this? I can predict the rest. South Passaic, South Passaic, In the Heights or Passing Strange. Goodnight Gracie. *is not happy*

10:49 Okay. maybe one reason to stay. DHP! And I love him. *g* And finishing his Tony speech from last year.

10:51 THANK FUCKING GOD! And I want her bloody dress omg. I seriously, seriously do. And good for her. Even if I'm still ticked she wanted to stay up in her dressing room and drink rather than come down and see her fans. But thank god South Passaic didn't win something.

10:54 Is this our last time seeing Whoopi doing musicals? And damn, only Mario -- no Nick. *sigh*

10:59 Fucking disappointing year. Seriously. Between Spring Awakening last year and now this? If this is the direction B'way is going... I want off.

Here's hoping next year is better. Really? It can't get much worse.

*loves the Whoopi!Christine and is wishing she didn't miss the opening now*

[identity profile] thescarletwoman.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The opening wasn't that great if you're looking for Whoopi's opening. But Lion King kicked some major, major ass.

I've seen Lion King on stage and adored it. I'm dreading the Mermaid performance tonight though.

[identity profile] thescarletwoman.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Lion King is one of those I've been meaning to and meaning to see and just never have for some reason.

Surprisingly, I didn't mind Little Mermaid too much. Surprisingly.

Definitely see Lion King! And apparently the "Part of your World" song is the only thing they've been performing out of the theatre itself -- not a good sign that the play is quality.

[identity profile] thescarletwoman.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I will. The next NYC trip is devoted to Sunday in the Park and Chorus Line -- but one of these days...

[identity profile] thescarletwoman.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No... unfortunately. They've never been there when I've been there. *woe*

Oh my God, I am so thoroughly hynotised by your icon...

*stares*

And yes, bring back Hugh as host, damn it!

[identity profile] thescarletwoman.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
*g* I love this icon so, so, so much.

He was one of the best hosts EVER. And not just because he's gorgeous either.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Cause Hugh is busy making his Wolverine movie:)

The year Hugh won his Tony I had tickets to see him the week after in The Boy From Oz. He was not only wonderful but damn he looks just even more gah live and in person. Great singer too:D

I've been updating as I go.

*sigh* And again he gets screwed out of something very, very deserving. Bah.

*late comment ahoy!*

I hope Little Mermaid wasn't too terrible. A Millikin alum played Ariel! :D Interesting, a Millikin alum also did the voice for Ariel in the disney movie. Conclusion: you have to have gone to my school in order to play the part. xD

Also! I concur, South Pacific is not exactly made of win. :P

Oh wow, that is really cool! From what I've heard, it hasn't gotten the greatest of reviews. I haven't seen it, so I have no opinion. ;o)

No, no it isn't. And after seeing Sunday on Saturday? No way in hell is South Passaic better. No fucking way.
