Political Musings
So for us Pennsylvanians, we go to the polls today. For my actual registered party (yes, I'm a registered Republican), there's not much really going on for us. I'm still on the fence as to if I'd rather change political parties or not. There are some things I agree with on the Republican side and others on the Democrat side. Being that PA is a state where you have to vote along party lines in primaries, it rather screws me over unless I want to keep changing tickets every damned election.
Then again, there's always write in votes...
I'm interested to see how this whole thing will pan out today. Personally, my own opinion of how the pieces of the democrats will fall is once we get to the Convention (oh how I'd love to be there just to WATCH the political process). Neither of 'em can win the first ballot and I seriously wonder if the reason John Edwards has been silent for so long is because someone will nominate him from the floor and we have a three-way race. Two people the majority of the country are sick of seeing bicker and one fresh-faced and new.
This theory is also known as the plotline of the end of Season Six of the West Wing.
We're heading to the polls after dinner and I'm expecting to glue myself to MSNBC for the majority of the evening and watch this pan out. I may not talk about politics much here, but when it comes down to it, I'm a political junkie. Doesn't matter what the race is -- stuff like Obama vs Hillary? Warms my little heart. Is it any wonder why I want to go into law?
I really need to drag out my Republicans for Voldemort icon again...
ETA: Happy Earth day! Do something good for the environment today! ♥
ETA2: I may be coming out of the closet so to speak as being a republican, but those in the cleveland gang know I'm very much not a batshit insane republican. I probably do swing closer to the Democratic side of things, but registered Republican as you take the party of your parents usually when you first register. The past year I've been debating if I should switch or not. And yes, in the last election I voted for Kerry. So, I'm not the devil or anything. *g*

OHMYGOD I would LOVE it if that happened. :-)
I just got back from the polls myself. (I didn't know you were a fellow Pennsylvanian.) I'm a Democrat, and I was undecided until literally five minutes until we got to the polling place. Gah, I'm glad that's over. The decision in November is a no-brainer, no matter who the Democratic candidate is.

I didn't know you were either! I'm in the northwest corner m'self. The decision rather is a no-brianer in November I agree there. If it were McCain of yesteryear? Maybe. Not the warmonger now. No way.

*is independent and lamenting this election*

*g* Independent is definitely easier... but I'd hate not getting to vote in primaries.

And I see your ETA. *giggles* That's just it. One feels the need to 'disclaim' and 'apologize' around here. There's very little room for elephants.
Although I'd like to get rid of the donkeys and the elephants and have ... uhm, giraffes!

Hence why it's hard for me to fit into one demographic or the other, really. ♥

OK, maybe we can't be friends anymore.

At the moment, I generally think Alan Greenspan is right on the economy, and he and Reagan wouldn't agree at all.

I have really screwy political views, too. So I can sort of understand where you're coming from. I agree with the Democrats on about...85% of the issues. And then there's like 8% that I agree with Republicans on. And then another like 7% that is just so WTF that no one agrees with me. T_T So it's like...I get what you're dealing with. I always try to avoid talking about my political views, because usually I just really freak people out. D:

That's... very much how I am. I don't know if I could list actual percentages or anything, but yes. See! We agree. *nods* and that's what matters. And honestly, that's why I usually avoid talking about politics too because some people I have on my flist are VERY pro-democrat and others are VERY pro-republican. I sit too much in the middle of the road. It's like put a blindfold on, pull a party out of the hat and there's your political party. It's how I feel.
Like I said. That's why there's such a thing as write-in votes. *shifty*

I can be a fan of the former as long as we agree on certain issues, like the Oxford comma. Or, more importantly, civil rights.
Or, most importantly, that I am not going to hell because I'm a Democrat (and vice versa), and that you are not morally superior because you're a Republican (and vice versa).
Where's Arnold Vinick when you need him!??!

I think we can agree on just about everything. And like I said the other night in regards to the Oxford comma, I agree with it's purpose, I have trouble USING it because of how I was taught in school. It's natural not to use it before And. *should poll the flist on this*
Dammit... why can't our politicians be like Alda and Sheen? *sigh*
no subject
Yeah, not this one.

Btw, I am still anti-Oxford, TYVM.

As it is, I'm on the verge of leaving the Democratic party to become an Independent after being one of their good little foot soldier since I was 5 yrs old. Many of us feel like we're being pushed out of our own party so fine, we'll go.
Good for you for voting today, no matter who it was for. :)

Hey, I've got at least two friends who are Republicans, one of whom is working on the McCain campaign. As long as nobody argues with me about my beliefs, I'm cool.

I didn't vote in our primary... I know bad Faith...
I have been wondering about Edwards myself... and frankly for what I know of him he would get my vote before Obama or Clinton... and then on the republicans... eh.. McCain? There is something about him I just don't like.
I know I am considered socially conservative... which that is where our differences lie... but that's okay... we need people to be different... Gosh can you imagine if we were all the same.... EEEKKKK!!
I vote for Alf for president... he is clearly the best choice this year.
